Should You Download Movies and TV Shows? Here’s Why It Might Be Time to Own Your Content Again

This may be one of my favorite topics in the sideloading community today. Because on this subject alone it’s a lot of do’s and don’ts all at once. Fast forward to now it’s 2022, update 2025, the technology of today from companies and the government is way better than let’s say back in 2004. Back in 2004, I downloaded everything onto my computer and burned them into DVDs to add to my collection of Movies, Tv Series & Albums.

It was just what you did. Then I was turned onto external hard drives, USB, and SSDs today. Where you can host just about everything. And even now you can host everything on a NAS Drive, and keep that running so you can access them using a Server like Plex or Emby to access the content from anywhere in the world.

Oh my, how cool the world has gotten when it comes to tech. And sorry if this all went over your head.

See technology is so many things, you can specialize in any part of it. It’s like Marketing, such a big word with so many parts to it working together as one to make it a Marketing System. But don’t worry we are still talking about Home Theater or Entertainment Tech. And whether you should download movies and TV shows?

Come let us break this all down for you and in the end, some links you can check out.

Streaming Isn’t What It Used to Be

When Netflix first came out, it was a game changer. You could order online, have DVDs mailed to you, and keep them for as long as you wanted because there were no late fees. If you wanted your next order, you just had to return the DVDs you had before the next ones were sent.

This wasn’t like those “Buy 10 CDs by mail and never pay for them” deals we all heard about growing up. I was never old enough for that, but for big music fans, it was a deal. You knew the album was good back then because everyone was talking about it.

Then one night, Netflix flipped the switch from mailing DVDs to streaming online for just $5 a month. And they had it all top TV shows like The Office and all the big movies. Netflix changed the game for everyone.

Licensing Issues: What Happens When Your Favorite Show Disappears?

Fast forward to 2025: Enshittafication. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Netflix’s model now feels more like Amazon’s. Prices keep going up for loyal customers, and yet, you're getting less in return. The real issue? Streaming has become a daily habit, and most people have just accepted this decline in quality—and that’s wild.

So what do I mean by "less"?

Remember when Netflix had everything? They had the license to stream it all. But over time, they started letting things go like “The Office”. You can’t watch The Office on Netflix anymore. Nope. You’ve got to sign up for Peacock now. They let one of the biggest shows go... to a platform that used to be one of the worst.

This keeps happening. You stick with a streaming service for that one thing you love, and then overnight, it’s gone. The deal expires, and you’re left scrambling, asking: Where can I watch it now?

And then, BOOM. Overnight, Funimation disappears without warning. That’s the risk of streaming in 2025. We don’t have time for this. These companies need to get it together.

You’re Renting, Not Owning—And That Comes at a Cost

Here’s the next issue. Remember when you could buy movies or shows on Prime Video? Or for anime fans, Funimation? You thought you were buying them but later you find out: you don’t really own that content.

What you’re actually doing is renting long-term. You can watch it as many times as you want... as long as the company still holds the rights.

But what happens if the streaming services goes down? Can you download your "purchased" content?

No. You can’t.

Wait, what? But I bought it legally from Amazon or Apple, of course I own it, right?

Nope. You do NOT.

If that server disappears or if that company loses the license, you lose everything, too. And here’s the kicker: you can’t download anything you thought you bought. Even if the button said “Buy,” it doesn’t mean you truly own it.

We all grew up understanding that “Buy” means it's yours to keep. Not here. And the only reason this is legal? Because nobody’s stopping them.

Even when you “buy” streaming devices like Firesticks, Onn boxes, or Apple TVs you may own the physical device, but you’re only licensing the software.

Let that sink in for a minute.

The government isn’t on your side in this either. If that show, movie, or anime disappears—even if you “bought” it through a streaming platform, you have no real rights. You lose access, and that’s that.

The Downsides of Today’s Streaming Experience

Did you know about the dirty little secret Netflix has? Yeah, most people don’t, but it makes me wonder if other streaming platforms are pulling the same move.

We all know that every streaming platform now offers ads in their first tier, even in bundles. Then you have the middle tier for SD, and maybe HD without ads. The last tier costs the most and claims to stream in 4K, HDR, and sometimes even says “Dolby Vision & Atmos.”

But did you know the last tier is all a lie when it comes to streaming in 4K and HDR? Yep, I’ll explain more below in detail.

Netflix is Compressed 4K & HDR Files? Not As Good As You Think

Netflix’s 4K and HDR tier is not as good as you think. I know some of you may have watched a movie at night and noticed the picture quality wasn’t right. Most people would think, “Oh, it’s the device I’m streaming on.” Others might blame their TV and even start thinking about buying a new one.

Then there are the few who dig deeper.

You realize it’s not your TV because your 4K DVDs look just fine. So you start comparing DVD quality to the streaming quality and that’s when you see it. They’ve compressed and oversaturated the file and still call it 4K.

You, the tech-savvy person, would catch on right away. You’d cancel that service and probably ask for a refund for all those months you thought you were watching true 4K just to find out one night it was all fake.

Monthly Subscriptions Add Up But You Still Don’t Own Anything

It’s all adding up. Did you notice? Have you stopped lately to see how many monthly subscriptions you’re paying for? I’m not talking about guessing. I mean sitting down with a pencil and paper, going through your statements to really see what you’re paying for.

Oh wait, it’s 2025 just use Rocket Money (this is NOT a sponsor). That app will show you everything you’ve been overlooking. Little charges here and there start to stack up.

Because you don’t see the money leaving your account, you’re not noticing it. You’re asleep at the wheel. You need to manage your money, or it’s going to be gone.

The average person has 3 to 4 streaming services for movies, TV shows, and anime, adding up to $104 a month. Why aren’t you bundling? Here’s a great blog that gives you tips: “Subscription Bundles vs. Sideloaded Nvidia Shield Pro.”

So how many are you paying for right now? Can I guess maybe 2 streaming services, and you try to watch a little free stuff, but you’re not that good at it yet? Well, guess how many streaming services we pay for here at the office… if you guessed 5, you are… wrong. We paid for 1 streaming service for 1 year back in 2020 to 2021.

We used to pay for Amazon Prime, which included “Prime Video”. We had the subscription not for Prime Video, we barely used that. It was for Whole Foods delivery. Being so busy at “work”, it was hard to stop and buy food. We canceled Amazon Prime when they took Whole Foods delivery off the platform. There was no point anymore. So for the past 5 years, we’ve paid $0 for streaming services and subscription of any kind.

How we watch free TV entertainment isn’t for everyone and that’s OK.

But I’ll tell you this; we have fewer issues than people who pay. We have better picture quality than people who pay. And with our device, you can actually “maybe” download through the device movies, TV shows, and anime, and add it to the collection.

APKs don’t just randomly shut down anymore. We all see it coming, and the developer usually updates things before it happens.

The Case for Downloading & Owning Content Again

One day you’re going to get tired of always streaming. It’s overrated, and the quality is not always as good as the physical copy. Not everyone wants to go out and buy a ton of DVDs and rip them. Not everyone knows how, and not everyone has the money to do it.

Your next step would be to download it off the internet. Now, I want you to know, we at D3vicx are NOT promoting illegal downloading. We’re just talking about the truth of what people are doing.

Do we think it’s wrong? That’s not for us to say; we’re not the lawmakers. We’re simply discussing what’s already happening out there. For legal reasons, we do not encourage or support illegal downloading always follow your local laws and use legal sources.

Let’s skip downloading and just talk about owning content again. No computer algorithm feeding you a new song “that you might like.” We heard music from the radio, night clubs, on the streets, at house parties somewhere that got us out and about.

Remember when you could just go to a music store and listen to samples of the music? When you could go to Blockbuster and see the movie trailers running on the TV screens? Or just read the back of the DVD to get the theme of the movie?

Back then, if you liked something, you bought it—you really did own the physical copy. And it was cool. You could rip it onto your computer and keep it in your collection. The art of owning is slowly going away. But for how long? We see Gen Z trying to get away from streaming, but they don’t have the tech skills or know-how.

This Gen Z only has basic tech skills and social media experience. They need to buckle up and get ready to be taken to school on how to own your content again.

Less Stress, Less Time Wasted Searching

Have you ever just wanted to watch something and knew right away where it was in your home because you owned it? Now, when you get that same feeling, you’re on streaming platforms searching which app has the movie or TV show.

You waste more time searching when you have too many options than you do when you own your library. You know where your files are, they don’t expire, and you’re not hunting across apps.

I’m getting burned out for you, just thinking about how the “legal” way of streaming something is more complex than ever. It’s already hard in the U.S. with too many options.

Now think about outside the U.S. if you want to watch something the “legal” way, you have to jump through so many hoops. You would’ve been better off leaving your home to go and find the physical copy. Or looking online to download it (I’m sorry to say), but it’s true.

No More Waiting for Shows to Come Back

You’ve got the file, and it’s yours. Forever. How does that feel? Feels empowering, right? Yes, you own The Office, and you no longer have to stream it. No more worrying about switching over to Peacock from Netflix.

Oh, what’s this? A scene you never saw before? Yep, another downside to streaming is they can censor parts of shows and movies whenever they want. You have no say in it not even with classic movies like Star Wars.

You don’t want anything censored. You want to watch it from start to finish, unedited, not chopped up due to the beliefs of whoever owns the platform. See? This isn’t making your life easier; it’s just one more thing to stress about.

Better Playback Quality with Devices Like the Nvidia Shield Pro

Streaming on a Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro with our Elite System loaded onto it is an experience. A real experience better than what you get with other streaming devices. No buffering or lagging like with other devices on the market. No home screen ads to dodge. You control your home screen and customize it to work for you.

You want high, crystal-clear quality when streaming. Would you like a shortcut button that takes you straight to all the movies, TV shows, and anime? With our setup, you have access to all the subscription apps and their libraries. You just click and the video plays.

The Nvidia Shield Pro helps people download and keep high-quality versions of their favorite shows and movies, which you can then transfer to your collection.

To be clear, the Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro works as a third-party tool that helps you build your media collection without relying on torrents or sketchy download sites. You're not torrenting; you're simply copying a file. Once it’s saved, it's yours to keep and enjoy. That’s just how the system works.

What People Are Complaining About (And Why You’re Not Alone)

Price and quality are the main issue people are complaining about. See if streaming companies cared more about the customer experience and the quality of the files they offer, people wouldn’t go online to download it themselves.

The customer would just stream it throw the streaming app, no need for piracy.

It’s because of Enshittafication and companies putting profit first over everything else has people feeling like they must do the piracy for better quality because when they do it the so-called legal way, it’s trash.

You have people doing it the legal way and they run into more problems and issues when they could have just downloaded the file the other way.

My show disappeared and I can't find it anywhere.

Another main issue is the disappearing of movies, TV shows, anime, hell sometime even the whole streaming application. Do you even remember Funimation? I only remember it because it the first thing that pops up before an anime video started.

People are tired of signing up for multiple streaming services. Too many services and yet not enough content on the platforms.

Some of these subscription applications should shutdown and then just license out their library. It’s too many players in the game having people waste so much time moving from platform to platform just to watch one thing.

I bought a movie and now it’s just gone on my streaming service.

Yes, this happens from time to time. When you are on a streaming platform and they offer you to “buy”, you are not really buying. If that was the case once you buy you should be able to download and keep it. Nope.

This is fake buying, or more like renting without ads until it’s no longer in the library of the streaming service you bought it from. I feel this is misleading and they should make it very clear.

Now that I think of it, when you see it, it says “Rent or Buy”. Again crazy because you are not buying a digital copy of the movie. I don’t even know how to explain this part anymore.

It’s like they want to confuse you and take your money all at once. Someone should go and start a class action lawsuit and call it a day.

Why does the same movie look better on Blu-ray than Netflix?

This is a great question. If you ever streamed on third-party apks, or tried to download Blu-ray, 4K, HDR, or Dolby Vision, you would have noticed the file size is huge. I believe Netflix is cutting corners to save space on their servers. Which if you ask me, their servers suck anyways. But still, yes, I think they thought no one would notice the difference.

And on the other hand, I believe they really don’t care about the customer experience anymore. Clearly, none of these companies do. It’s all about the bottom line, getting paid more and more money from the customer.

Without a person like Steve Jobs in the world, there is not one putting the customer experience first. These companies no longer have integrity. They don’t see it from your point of view, the customer and if they do.

I remember seeing an interview with John Cena. Wrestlers hated him because during rehearsals, he wouldn’t be in the ring he’d be sitting out in the crowd. He said he wanted to see things from the fans’ point of view. That’s real care. That’s next level thinking.

Same with Jordan. He felt like people paid their hard-earned money to come see him play, and he didn’t want to let them down. He said, “he had the easier job he just had to show up and give them a show.”

Who does this in 2025 as a company or even a creator?

I’m tired of paying for 6 plus streaming apps a month.

I’m not paying for 6 plus streaming apps, I’m paying for 0. Would you like to pay for 0 as well but still have access to all of the TV entertainment for free? I’m not talking about just for a few months, I’m talking about years. I’ve give you a second to let that sink in.

I like to buy a premium product once and have it for years. To experience something incredible for years. I want that for you too.

I’ve had my cellphone since 2017 and I have no plans of upgrading until it dies. My headphones just died and now I’m looking forward to upgrading to the Sony WH-1000MX4. I know these headphones are a few years old but they are the ones I have my eye on. And I can see me having them for 10 plus years.

It’s time for you to have a wonderful experience and own something that does what it says it’s going to do.

Nothing more and nothing less. It’s everything that you dreamed of and came in handy when you truly had an issue. It’s time to start owning again and stop renting, and streaming. Let us help you own your entertainment.

Starting with our offer of the Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro, it doesn’t just stream movies, TV shows, and anime. You can stream it all on this one device, music, live TV, sports, and PPVs.

So how many years are we talking will this streaming device last me? I’ve had my Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro for 5 years and I see it going another 3 to 5 years. Maybe more for me since I load them up with our Elite System. Yea, this is not a budget friendly, cheap streaming device you have to replace every year. No one has the time for that anymore.

So… Should You Download Movies and TV Shows?

If you are at home on your computer, HELL NO! Internet companies can now see what you are doing on your computer. They saw when someone we didn’t know gained access to our WiFi to start downloading mess from our service. Plume noticed that as well and blocked the person, good try.

I downloaded a Stormzy Album with a VPN on and my internet provider saw that and sent me a notice. How was this? Because I was using the router they provided me. Now with my own router, the Flint 2, I addon my VPN and I have privacy when I’m online.

In New York City you can only hind what you do so much. This is why we stopped offering Firesticks years ago. People who had internet service with Spectrum were being blocked from streaming third-party apks on the Firesticks. I had everyone I knew sign up for Surfshark. I use Surfshark so of course, I’m going to shout them out and recommend them. You now need a VPN in 2025 but not with our device, we will explain more later.

The great part of them doing this was pushing my business to think outside the box. Well, what else can I fully load? I haven’t tried an Android yet, let us see what is out there and what we can do with one.

Here is where I recommend you to download your movies & TV series to. Your Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro you got from us. I don’t know why but if you download through the device they can’t see what you are doing at all. The movie & TV series are then saved to the device. With the Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro, it’s the best-jailbroken tv box to own in 2025. You can add a USB to the back and use X-Plore to transfer the file.

On the Jailbroken Apple TV 4K, you are good to just leave it on. With 64GB you should be good for a little while. But if you do want to move it look for a type C USB to add to the device. Or plug your computer up and transfer the file. (I’ll LOOK INTO THIS MORE FOR A STRAIGHT ANSWER.) You can download movies and TV series onto the Jailbroken Apple TV 4K to keep. (Update June 2025: Apple TVs will not let any app on the device to go over 500KB. So no, you can’t download onto the device, just the Nvidia Shield Pro.)

Really this goes for the Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro we offer. You can download pretty much anything and host it on the device. Or transfer the file to host it somewhere else. But we only recommend you download on the streaming device you picked up from us. Never on your computer at home, it’s just too many risks. If you’re looking for 4K or Blu-ray copies I will let you know in the Video Manual where to go.

Yes, If You’re Tired of Feeling Powerless

Downloading gives you control, better quality, and real ownership over your entertainment. Can you say that streaming gives you that same feeling? No it doesn’t. Streaming at times can make me feel cheap and fake. I’m not a fan of AI trying to map my behavior.

I’m a spirit, that lives in a body and my mind grows. I feel these algorithms are trying to stop us all from growing. It’s time to take back our power and start thinking for ourselves. To start experiencing life again.

When was the last time you saw a good movie and was just like wow?

Maybe back in 2017 when we still had some kind of control over our daily lives and we as people went out into the world. We experience the world, yes we had Instagram and all that fake stuff. But for the people who didn’t do “social media”, where were they? Living life, that is where they were.

I’m not too much of a fan of social media due to the damage it can cause to our brains over time. I guess that is why I prefer to write. I can tell you now, I was bad at school and even worst with English so I’m pretty shocked I’m a blogger and a writer.

But I’m a programmer first. And our system, the Elite System on a Nvidia Shield Pro can solve all your streaming problems for the next 3 to 5 years. You can build up a pretty good collection by than.

How the Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro Can Help You Take Back Control

Safe private downloading is important. And doing this on a buffer like the Nvidia Shield Pro is the best way to go. You device doesn’t map your activites like your router from your internet provider can. The Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro is completely under your control.

This is why we flash the system and bring it back down to Android 9, for customer control.

To have even more privacy, you can turn off Google Play Services. You don’t need the Google Play Store for apps when you can sideload them using Downloader and other Android App stores that are around.

These other App Stores do offer the original version of the app, not just the modified version. Want to add even more third-party APKs? You can sign up for the WAR ROOM on Patreon where you have access to D3vicx App Store.

This is a great way to keep your device up to date the longest and how to try out new APKs. You can replace the ones you don’t like and see what we recommend instead. This streaming device gives you a peace of mind that the content you download onto the device is really yours.

You can tranfer it to your server and add to your collection.

FAQ: Should You Download Movies and TV Shows?

1. What’s the difference between downloading and streaming?

Downloading saves the file to your device for offline use, while streaming plays it live from the internet without saving though data usage is often similar.teach-ict.com+3podcastle.ai+3superuser.com+3

2. Why do people download even when streaming is easier?

Many download because it offers better quality (especially 4K, HDR, & Dolby V&A) and works offline without buffering perfect for reliable playback.reddit.com

3. Can downloads take up too much storage?

Yes, downloads require space, especially for high-quality video. You’ll need enough room to store and play them smoothly.

4. Are downloaded files higher quality than streaming?

Often yes. You can download Blu-ray, 4K, HDR, or Dolby Vision. Streaming services compress files so the sharpest is 1080p. The 4K and HDR files are worse, compressed and over-saturated.

5. Is downloading illegal?

This is a grey area and it depends on the person thoughts and ideas behind the subject. It going to depend on the source. Legal downloads from official stores are fine, but pirating copyrighted content is illegal. But this doesn’t stop people.reddit.com

6. What happens if a show disappears from a streaming service?

If you've been renting or “buying” digitally, it's gone the license can be lost at any time for a streaming service. That’s why many prefer permanent downloads rather than buying through streaming services. You don’t really own the movie or TV show when you buy it through a streaming service.

7. How does owning downloads save you time and stress?

You can watch anytime without buffering or app changes. No need to search across multiple platforms you just play what’s yours anytime.

In Conclusion: Should You Download Movies and TV Shows?

Please don’t be on some random websites trying to download things. If you are going to be hard-headed and download, please stick to the torrent site that are safer. There are a few I do recommend, even if you have your VPN on your internet provider can still see this activity. You have to turn the VPN on a special way, as shown to you in this YouTube video by “ “.

Because it’s downloading and not streaming they are doing two totally different things and the VPN must be setup for the downloading.

Also please note, these sites will most likely be banned in your country. You can still use them, turn on your VPN to be on the safe side. A paid VPN, not a free one, learn more in this blog “Paid VPN vs. Free VPN: “.
